Getting a job in Nigeria is considered difficult; however, in a world where content marketing has become a trend, companies such as magazines, newspapers, and blog owners are in regular need of contents. So, even if you don’t have any prior experience as a writer, you can still get a writing job. What you need to have is the passion for writing and a willingness to succeed.

So, here is how you can get a writing job without a prior experience:

  1. Write a lot:

You need to build yourself as a writer; therefore, you must  write a lot and make sure they are polished contents.

  2. Create a niche for yourself:

Have a website or a blog to begin with, and publish lots of your contents on the platform. Also, you can share your contents online and work with feedbacks.

  3. Contact people in the industry:

Make a list of people in the corporate industry, such as entrepreneurs, companies, and start-ups who might be in need of writing services and then contact them as a writer. You may not get a positive response at first, but some of them may be willing to give you a job to do later.

  4. Ask friends and family for work:

Announce to your friends and family members of your status as a writer, and offer them your services. You would be surprised that a lot of them would be willing to give you a writing job.

  5. Use job boards:

There are several job boards online, both free and paid, such as contenta and probloggers, that you can get a job through.

  6. Network with other freelance writers:

Another thing you can do is to talk to other freelance writers for advice on how to get a job and also let them know you are available if they want to pass on any of their work to you.

  7. Stick to your rates:

A lot of freelance writers accept too little an amount for their job, but you need to determine how much you are willing to accept for a job and stick to it.

  8. Ask for a referral:

When you do get a client, after the successful completion of the client’s work, ask the client to refer you to some of his/her friends and family members. You would be amazed at the number of jobs you could get through them.

  9. Use LinkedIn:

LinkedIn is a site for professionals, to create a profile (if you don’t already have one) and advertise yourself as a writer and also grow connections of people that can be a potential client to you.

  10. Join Facebook groups:

Join professional groups on Facebook and let the members of the group know that you are a writer. That way, you can get a lot of writing jobs through the forum.

Basically, in order to get a writing job, build yourself as a writer, market yourself effectively and deliver on your job excellently.

Let’s design together

One of the reasons we became interior designers in the first place was because we love collecting and then putting it all together. But when you’re designing your own house, the hardest thing is to finish it, as you’re always adding your next favourite thing, and finally there’s no space left.
